We had the chance to explore this venue during an open house hosted by the Smoky Mountain Wedding Association, and it quickly became clear why couples are falling in love with it. From the thoughtful layout to the stunning backdrop, every detail has been curated with care. Regardless of the season — spring, summer, fall, or winter — The Mustard Seed provides a cozy and scenic space to say “I do.”
Tucked into 12 rolling acres of East Tennessee mountains, The Mustard Seed Venue was brought to life by Wendell and Kathryn Tanner, who purchased the property and its eight cabins in December 2021. While it began as a space for overnight rentals, their vision quickly expanded into something more meaningful: a haven for destination weddings, Christian retreats, and families looking for a peaceful, inclusive place to gather.
Today, that vision is thriving — and so is the property. With accommodations, ceremony spots, and reception areas all on-site, couples and guests get the full weekend experience without needing to hop between hotels or venues.

Each of the eight cabins was carefully renovated and furnished with comfort and hospitality in mind. After completing the upgrades, the Tanners felt called to expand their vision. In July 2024, with help from Mary Kate Wyatt, the venue was rebranded as The Mustard Seed Venue—a name that reflects faith, growth, and a whole lot of love.
One of the venue’s standout features is its 8 private cabin suites, all nestled just a short walk from the ceremony and reception areas. Today, The Mustard Seed Venue is a multi-use wedding destination with a focus on full-day weddings, elopements, and micro-weddings. With a max capacity of 120 guests and accommodations for up to 66 overnight guests, couples and their loved ones can truly turn their celebration into a Smoky Mountain cabin wedding. The cabin style isn’t your run of the mill Smoky Mountain Cabin. We’ve been to A LOT of cabins around the area and this setup truly has a few great locations for weddings. This isn’t always the case.
